BOV Premier Division Statistics 2022-23 – Match Day 13
1 – Much travelled Leo Agius (20) made his Premier Division debut for Balzan in their match against Birkirkara last Saturday (1-2). The Floriana youth nursery product was signed earlier this year by Balzan from Lugano in Switzerland. Agius had a two and a half year spell with Westerlo in Belgium, where he played mostly in the youth leagues.
10 – Francisco Eliomar Rodrigues Farias, most commonly known as Leo Bahia, scored Santa Lucia’s goal against Mosta (1-2), which was the tenth for the Brazilian striker in the Malta Premier Division. This season, he has already reached his tally of last season; five goals. He needed in total 23 MPL matches for that.
100 – Gudja United midfielder Ayrton Azzopardi made his 100th Premier Division appearance in their match against Hamrun Spartans (0-1) on Sunday. The 29-year-old, plagued with a few injuries the last years, made a 74th minute substitute appearance, replacing Ahinga Selemani. Ayrton played most of these 100 games in the colours of Tarxien Rainbows (71), but also played in the Premier Division for Hibernians (19), Floriana and Sliema Wanderers (3 appearances each) while the match on Sunday was his fourth for Gudja, who he joined last summer. During season 2012/13, at the start of his career while being with Hibernians, Ayrton played one match for the Malta national team.
100 – Last Monday night, Ferdinando Apap (Hibernians) played his 100th match in the Premier Division. The Maltese international defender made his debut in the MPL with Mosta during season 2012/13, making 23 appearances in the top league that season (3 goals) before returning to the Gozitan 1st Division. In 2019, Hibernians signed his services and added another 77 matches to his Premier Division tally, scoring another eight goals. The 30-year-old has made over 350 domestic and international appearances in his career, including a season English non-league football with Sheffield FC (2011/12) and is a Ghajnsielem FC youth academy product.
250 – Ryan Camenzuli played his 250th match in the Malta Premier Division last Sunday in Hamrun’s 1-0 victory over Gudja United. The Maltese international wing-back made his senior debut in the MPL way back during season 2010/11 as a 16-year-old for his nursery club Birkirkara. In fact, he made most of these 250 in the Birkirkara colours (143) and 94 for Floriana as well. He signed for Hamrun last summer and made an appearance in all their 13 games in the Premier Division so far. Now aged 28, he has played over 350 domestic and international appearances, scoring 43 goals.
